Okay, first thing’s first, truth be told I’ve been putting off writing this post for weeks. Don’t misunderstand me, this particular area of discussion is one that I am unequivocally passionate about so it’s extremely high on my priorities list. At the end of the day, however, my main focus has been on building the website which, so far, has been an increasingly involved process. Diet and exercise, therefore, have undoubtedly fallen by the wayside.
Thankfully, though, over the past few weeks, I’ve managed to squeeze in a few good sessions of body exercises followed by some much-needed running. I think the furthest I’ve gone recently has been something like 6-8 miles. Granted, I didn’t run the entire time, but I did run for the majority of it.
Even so, I have to tell you that I’ve been feeling very unhealthy lately. Mostly due to my poor diet which is a derivative of all of the bad decisions I continue to make in regards to the foods I choose to consume. I love all things carbs. Cakes, cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, muffins, breads, pastas… you name it, if it’s a carb, I probably love it. Double if it’s a dessert. I also consider myself to be an above average baker which, given my passion for diet and exercise, and considering my aforementioned love of all things carbs and desserts, is ridiculously contradicting and diametrically opposing. Redundant, I know, just trying to stress my dilemma.
I also drink entirely too much coffee because, long story short, yum. I use a moka pot which is slightly less potent than espresso, but the 3-cup pot gets the job done. Caffeine overload. That mixed with the dairy (whipped cream or whole milk), sugar and/or chocolate that I use makes my coffee habit delightfully terrible. I even sometimes have two of these drinks per day. Not exactly a great move on my behalf in the health department. Hot tea is one of my favorite drinks of all time, and it’s loaded with health benefits. Unfortunately, I haven’t been consuming much of it lately because I’ve been too busy filling up on undertows and mochas.
Essentially then, the main area that I need to personally focus on in regards to my health, is my diet. For whatever reason, I have the most difficult time finding the willpower to eat healthy, consistently. All this to say that I’ve been planning on kicking off a section on the site called ‘MyHealth’ so that I can showcase all of the exercises, recipes, habits and opinions that I have on living a healthy lifestyle. You probably just laughed out loud and I don’t blame you, but hear me out.
Over the next few weeks and months, I will adjust my eating habits and post my progress, both good and bad, on MyIdeaPark. In part, this will help to hold me accountable in my own efforts while at the same time hopefully motivating you to create your own plan. Feeling good is great, but helping others to feel good about themselves in the process would be a real victory!
The only reason I’ve postponed writing these posts is because I wanted to ensure that I’d maintain consistency in my exercise and diet, as well as with my writings about both. Now I feel ready to take on that challenge.
I’ve not yet decided how frequent these articles are going to be or even what their exact content will consist of, but I’m really looking forward to working on this series.
