Purpose. A small word with huge meaning, am I right? It’s an aspect of life that many people don’t even consider, while others are tormented with on a daily basis. What is purpose, then? It can mean different things to different people and in my opinion changes as our lives change. I also believe we don’t have a singular purpose in this life, on the contrary, we have many! That being the case there are some purposes that remain constant, like family, and others that can change, like our careers.
It’s easy to get a bit overwhelmed with the idea of finding your life’s purpose, there are many things to consider, after all. A good place to start would be by removing any thought of an end goal. There’s no point in living out a lifestyle in order to maybe receive a ‘pot-o-gold’ at the end of your journey. As cliché as it may sound, the journey is more important; it’s the source of your overall happiness and it will ultimately define you as a human being. Take a moment to really ask yourself what lifestyle you want to live, who you want to help, and how both might be your life’s purpose and bottomless vessel of happiness.
Maintaining life’s most intimate purposes, like family, can be the most rewarding and fulfilling tasks you’ll ever undertake. Sure, they can be challenging at times, but rest assured that you will find endless amounts of energy from pursuing these types of purposes with an open heart and mind. You may get a bit tired along the way, but there is no doubt that you will earn many supporters and they will always help to push you back up, that’s part of their own life’s purpose! Holding fast to your core purposes in life will mold you into a powerful individual in one way or another.
You may also find yourself passionately pursuing a dream or vision only to gain disdain in the very same work a few years down the road. Time and age are no reasons to continue a pursuit that you no longer feel holds purpose in your life. If it seems like something is telling you that it’s time for a change, then don’t wait, make a change. Life is too short to do anything mediocre, all of your dealings should be met with a great desire to do your very best, otherwise what’s the point of doing it in the first place? Listen to your heart and follow your passions, they will guide you to your life’s purposes.
Luckily, life has a way of letting us know when we’re on the right track. A few ways of tuning into what life is telling us are by mediating, praying or visualizing. Allowing ourselves a few moments during the day to breathe and clear our mind and thoughts does wonders for noticing where our purposes lie. When we hear people say ‘follow your heart’ they aren’t just being nice (even if that’s all they think they’re doing). There is great power in following your heart, that’s where you will find your life’s true purpose and even more so where you will find an intense desire to help others beyond all imagination.
If there is one piece of advice that I could give above all else, it’s to love what you do with all of your heart. Love your family, friends, relationships, work, hobbies and life in general to the absolute fullest – I promise that if you do this everything else will fall into place. Your heart and the love you have for this life is like a compass, guiding you through exactly the right path at exactly the right time. Do not underestimate the power of love, it may sound silly, but it’s so true! Love is the most powerful feeling we possess so share it abundantly and you will receive it back in full, and then some. Doing this will unfold so many other magical experiences in your life and will surely leave you filled with purpose.
Not sure what to do? Take things one day at a time, there is no rush to learn all of life’s secrets. Take a breath and notice the small things, become more in tune with yourself and nature, listen to your heart as much as your mind and follow your passions to discover your life’s purposes. If you feel overwhelmed talk to someone who knows and tries to understand you. You might be surprised as to how much insight and support you’ll receive. Last, but certainly not least I know that you will do great things, you were born for them!
